There are a lot of technical requirements for making a web site accessible, but first you need to make it a priority. In this free virtual meetup, Obinna Ekwuno of Gatsby argues that the way to make web accessibility a priority is to think about it in human terms.
When developers think of accessibility, they often focus on the code, making syntax semantic, all of the ARIA, etc. However, I believe that even before the code, accessibility is human in the sense that it stems from our sense of self and our sense of empathy. In my talk, I’ll focus on these two things and how you can use them to build better, more accessible websites.
Obinna Ekwuno is a Software Engineer, currently working at Gatsby with a passion for teaching. He does so through creating visual courses through JAMstack training and Eggheadio. He also blogs about things he cares about and believes that wider conversations will save the world! Catch him nerding out about web accessibility and performance.
He is passionate about the growth of the African tech ecosystem and believes in kindness as a service. Also, making French toast is his superpower.
